The battery on the SD needed replacing about three weeks ago and to cut a long story short, finally got another one today. The battery is supplied with a separate bottle of diluted acid and just wanted some advice please. I have an Optimate 4 charger and would like to know if the battery caps should be removed and if it should be continually charged until the Optimate says it’s fully charged or for a certain amount of time? The instructions with the battery differ slightly to my understanding of the optimate. Many thanks.

Hello Neil,
My understanding is that you stick the acid in and then charge until the battery charger indicates that it is fully charged (all this with the caps off).
Then check the level again to make sure it's between min and max and then install the caps.

The battery I had a few months ago was delivered filled but inside a sealed bag with screw top, a bit like those vacuum bags you can buy. Instructions were to open the top first, take it out of the bag and charge it up in the normal way, removing the little tops on the battery first. I popped it onto my little 4A charger to do this. Afterwards, I have used my oximate to keep it topped up. I would say do as Nick advises and your optimate will be fine for charging.
