I started the bike up yesterday and I checked all my lights and indicators while I was there and I noticed my headlight switch works backwards ,dip on the switch is high beam and high on the switch is low beam ,I have'nt messed with the wiring at all so it must have been like this since I bought the bike .So before I start messing with the wiring I wondered ,is it possible to fit a headlight bulb upside down ? ,don't know if this has any bearing on the problem but the front pilot light is'nt working either

I'm thinking that a problem in the headlight itself is less likely if its on one of those three pole connectors, theres usually a few switches on ebay with broken dip switches so I'm wondering if a previous owner has repaired it upside down? maybe had such a fight to fit it wrong that they then couldnt face putting it in right?

If the switch has been modified I would probably swap the blue and white over, and put a taps on the white with a bullet connector for the high beam indicator light and passing switch... can always swap back later

I could offer an adaption of johns idea (if its ok), if you go into the headlight and separate the switch connector you can (by poking a small screwdriver down the back to bend the tang in flat) extract the brass terminals and simply swap places on the blue and white and my 400 things honestly not wired in this weird and wonderful way

As Buster said when I checked the three pole connector all the tangs were flat allready and they were loose so I took them out opened the tangs and refitted the right way round my dip and high now behaves properly , the pilot light was just a bulb so I've replaced that and that works now as well .I've still to sort the wiring out in the headlight bowl (not all that should be in there is because there is'nt room) it's a replacement chrome headlight shell that's fitted and while it's an 8" rather than a 7" it's very shallow so there a couple of connectors behind the headlight instead of in it ,good job I'm a fair weather rider or I'd be having problems .
