I’m looking at buying 1980 Superdream 250N is there anything model specific to look out for when buying? I’ll be checking for the usual stuff like fork seals, chrome, engine oil leaks etc etc Any guidance appreciated thanks Adrian

Seat pan condition, especially the front corners. Swing arm condition, no dodgy weld repairs, or perforations on the central box section. Front Brake Caliper bleed nipple operates. No very excessive play on the rear sprocket. All Superdream tanks have a potent corrosion pin-hole issue at the rear lower corners, especially the left hand side, depends how they have been stored.

can be worth having a look at the rear subframe while you have the seat off. check the engine for signs of gasket goo, probably ok on the clutch cover, if its not a golden colour on the crankcase joint then its probably been apart, its a bad sign if its on the base gasket.

Only thing to add would be any missing and broken pieces. I'm thinking are the grab rails, heat shields and collector box there. Is is a 2 into 2 exhaust or 2 into 1? Check the side panels for any broken off lugs. Seat cowl cracks. Check for originality of parts like indicators.
If you can, take lots of pictures for reference and you can always post them here for advice. None of the members here will gazump you.
Best of luck.

Thanks, a friend went to see it today and I wasn’t surprised by the condition which I thought was average. No massive rust issues apart from rear hub spigot. He checked all the places you guys mentioned. Some pitting on the chrome. The switch cluster on the left is fairly well degraded, are replacements available? Oh and it’s a 2 to 2 exhaust.

if I could offer a word of caution, this bolt is wrong and could do with a proper one in (engine a stressed member) switchgear looks well worth saving... overall a decent looking bike, whats the plan?

Plan is to buy it but try to negotiate on price. It’s not for every day runaround but to improve on and use in the dry and display and appreciate

Disregarding price, I would buy that as the basis for a restoration. Matching numbers for frame and engine, and as many original parts as possible would be what I look for. Pretty much complete bike, yes, that looks a good starting point. Plenty of help here too.
