Thanks, chaps. I have been speaking to a friend of mine about this electric stuff and learned something very important. He explained that every electrical system is manufactured with a pressurised system full of smoke ! It's true! This is to identify a fault, and when a fault happens the smoke escapes. Clever eh? I must admit, I didn't know this, but it all makes perfect sense now. Does anyone know where I can get it re-pressurised ? Or perhaps a new friend ?

Your friend is correct, when the smoke escapes, you have a problem, you need to keep the smoke contained

if it was mine I'd probably swap the solenoid as a first move. without a neutral light (as others have said) you'll need to pull the cutch lever in in order to get it to turn over.

Temporary exhaust on it. It's having a 2 into 2. While I have a test bed, I have another 400 engine to throw in and check for life too. That's going to form tha basis of a project I will sell. All the electrics now work on this, so I will press on and have this ready for a new owner in the spring. Nothing like the sound of life from a long dead bike. 👍

Safety first Pete. You know me. I actually used AVGAS. Lasts well, as I won't be selling this one yet, and smells bloody lovely. 🤣

May I begin this episode by saying how very grateful I always am with any spares I can get. They say every day is a school day, and I have been troubled with the front brake. As I only have 250 forks, so it can only have one caliper. I have a great set for a 400 but I can only fit one side, so I did. Problem was, they would not bleed. I tried everything then decided to leave it and do some other jobs. Today, I took it off to inspect it. It looked fine. Can you see the problem? No? Neither could I, but then... Oh ffs ! The good news is, the pistons were in the box in another plastic bag. All fitted back together and I have a brake now. Just waiting for a replacement oil pressure sensor and a battery, then it should be ready for testing.

Oil sensor arrived. Battery also, and joy of joys, DVLA have sent me a lovely new V5. So we now have a matching numbers 79 400 with a period registration, marked down as historic. That'll do.
Still to go- Seat. Got a new cover. Paint. Got Helios red for this one with blue decals.
