very nice, wonder if it could be converted to kickstart Only a kick start, surely some dynamically adjustable timing and a reverse gear could be tricky with the screw driven cam

Brethren behave, although I am quite partial to the classic looks, I'm not interested in jumping up and down on a kickstart or cleaning up puddles of oil, besides Helga is to busy serving beer to perform such tasks π

I'm not interested in jumping up and down on a kickstart or cleaning up puddles of oil, May I ask why not TGHLB? It's fun. Funner than a fun thing on a fun day in Funville.

Ah, Prince Comstar, thou have raised thy voice and questioned the logic of Lord Beer, let me expand on my reasoning, firstly such efforts as mentioned earlier shall not be by my hand, and logically these endeavours must be passed on to others, Helga in this instance, now of course whilst I most enjoy watching Helga bouncing up and down, the fact is I will most likely end up with a beer tray shoved up my arse, and so electric start is preferred, indeed this is why all modern bikes come this most welcome feature, all men must rejoice π

That's a grand looking bike. I enjoyed my time riding a 650 AJS, but, the starter motor on the CX is a joy. Helga's efforts though. Now that's an image I find difficult to forget. π

Many Helga's will help you remember, sure helps me, although they are banned from the inner sanctum of the garage, too much of a distraction π

Oh dear, Lord Beer flashes more cash, what is wrong with me W800, cos that's the bike, and JHW cos that's his initials. What the hell, he's me dad, it's only money π

And so the tart up begins, and first on the list is the forks, horrible nasty corrosion had taken a hold, fortunately the fork gaters have prevented the nastiness travelling beyond. First off was to attack the forks with 80 grit, harsh but a quick way to remove the white fur and lacquer, moving up through the grades to 800, cos that's where my stash stops, but a smooth corrosion free finish was achieved, then out with the polishing mops and a fine job they did and also decorated me in stringy bits and polishy blobs of goo, looked very strange but bollocks, the neighbours think I'm weird anyway π I'm not completely happy, more attention is needed in the awkward area's but the light in the garage is not ideal, I'll revisit this for tidying up when the weather improves and I can get it out in the garden.

Bloody hell, it's not raining today, yet, best get the bike out while it holds off, first impressions, turn around and go back to the hall, the clutch was adjusted by a womble and the throttle needed quarter turn before pulling on the cable, quick twiddle with the clutch adjuster and deft twirling of a 10mm spanner sorted these minor problems, let's try again. So the engine, nice, very nice, had to recalibrate the old brain and not ride it like a high reving inline four, but once understood all was well, nice torque from low down, reasonable power, happy to sit at 70 and still with power to overtake, briefly hit a ton (private road of course officer) with maybe a bit more to go, but really that's not the point of this bike so I'll leave that sort of thing to one of the other bikes, this one is for enjoying the ride. Handling wise, can't complain, nice riding position, comfortable, very easy to use, suspension a little basic and soft, but again that's what it is. Brakes are acceptable and do the job. Finally, looks, this bike, in my opinion anyway, is a fine looking machine, and judging by the swivelling heads of drivers, motorcyclists and people who walk to their destination (a strange concept) they think so to, and that's what this bike is about, so in summary a fine addition to the collection π

Ye olde Lord Beer will suffice π However, a most troubling matter, namely a wobbly mirror, I'll replace it, but wait I can fix things, so what is the problem, well it's had a whack, not enough to show but the insert moves, so with the hammers safely locked away I carefully remove the rubber surround and it pops out with glass, removal of the inner clamp reveals the insert, basically an eyelet, not clamping down. No problem, simply devise a method to clamp the eyelet and squash it back tight, a simple nut and bolt with two suitably sizes spacers and tighten the buggery out of it, success no more movement, I step back with a beer and marvel at my genius. So I reassemble, clamp back in and no movement, in with the glass and rubber surround, all going well just the final corner to pop in and..... F......k, etc, oh dear, and it was going so well. And I want to use it tomorrow, but fear not, the Superdream senses my immense disappointment and recognising my complete incompetence, kindly donated it's mirrors until a replacement is sourced. I should have been used a hammer π€π
