I don't normally take this 'bean counter' type of approach to anything motorbike related as this is my passion, always has been. That said, it is always good to take a reality check. If you are heavily invested (heart wise) in a classic motorcycle or car, and can afford to do it up then you just don't question it.....I think we all know that none of us will ever get rich from recommissioning or restoring old vehicles but heck it passes the time.

Oil and filter I think we'd be looking at no more than $20 as these don't seem to have a large oil capacity. Carbs off and cleaned and let's say they need kits as well, I reckon that would be $50-$60 all in. I may have missed something but to get the bike running we are looking around the $330 mark.
Then we have the DMV (DVLA if you like) wanting their slice - the bike is what is known as 'out of the system' as it has been dormant for so long so it would involve an inspection and all being well they will register it and a new title would arrive within a few weeks. For that we'd be looking at around $200 to $230 - this would include a years registration. I have the old title so none of this should be a problem. Without a title and just a bill of sale it would be much much harder. In a way, it is good that thing bike is out of the system as if it wasn't there could be 'back fees' and those can be horrendous....anyway, that's a whole new tangent.
So - to get the bike running and on the road and assuming there are no hidden horrors we have this as a (rough) costing so far:
Approximately $569 (£449)
Purchase price of bike including free delivery to me via breakdown service : $1000 (£790)
Total so far : $1569 (£1239)
My thoughts to follow.....

if it was mine, I'd be tempted to have a look in the carbs, diaphragms would be the fist check and if they are good then the mixture screws to make sure they have their full stack of gubbins, if all thats good then a couple of tins of carb cleaner for the rest of the gubbins, paying particular attention to the pilot jets

Okay so out of the midst comes this Aussie.....the friend of a friend I mentioned. Was literally like he walked from the puff of a cloud - not kidding you had the corks around his hat and everything....proper old school Australian fella. Got his wallet out and said 'Look kyber, i'll give you 1700 bucks....gotta shoot mate as I got a flight from LAX in a couple of hours....take it or leave it.....we good?'
So he chucked 1700 at me and then promptly left...the bike is still with me. Completely bizarre.
I had no time to dwell......not sure if it was all a dream or not, time will tell.
