Just posted this for a fellow owner who was fighting to remove the rear wheel bearings. I was explaining that the rear is not the same as the front (Rear spacer has a collar on it), and is in fact simple to remove with just an old socket. Thought it may be of use. If you already know, then sorry for preaching.
Do you know what, I think the book is wrong. I have just gone out and done a wheel for you and taken the pictures below for clarity. On the wheel I did you can see than someone has changed the bearings once and almost chiselled their way in- not needed. On the sprocket side (So left NOT right) you can see the inner part of the spacer under the bearing. Fit a socket on to this part and hit it. This will push the opposite bearing out as shown. The rest is easy. No chiselling or pullers required. A two minute job !
