Silvers do a pattern ignition coil I tried to remove the leads from SMEs so I think it is probably knackered so I may need a new one Has anyone used one? Do they bold directly to the original coil mounting points?

Check resistance value of primary, less than 1 ohm.
You know of coil from car world, vauxhall V6 with CDI and wasted spark.
Can be made to fit, removable leads unlike oe coil, glued in.
If your ht leads wobble as if loose in coil towers, it's suspect.
Will try the sometimesnet to get part number....

You know of these red neon plug caps that flash when HT passed thru ?
A real usefully visual aid for ignition problems and testing.
Does your problem bike not like to rev over 4 to 5 thousand rpm ?

I bought the bike 2 1/2 years ago, stripped it, bagged and labelled all the parts and have been gradually refurbishing or collecting replacements I cleaned the ignition coil and though I would change the HT leads thinking they would screw out of the coil end - School boy error there The bike was running well before I stripped it so the coil was working but I suspect I have knackered it Hence the question, I expect to start bolting the bike back together fairly soon and want to be sure I have a good coil

You have nothing to loose by fitting and trying the original fl12 coil but I would try those red neon plug caps, for testing purposes.
Have you checked secondary resistance with the NGK plug caps on, then undo them, they do screw into the HT leads, and re measure.
Look on the caps for the resistance of them.
Don't forget to wobble the leads at the coil, gently.
It is good to have a good earth on the coil mounting towers, check between mounting towers and the green wire at the coil "Lt" connection, and between the Lt green wire and eyelet ring terminal, and the green wire eyelet ring terminal and to earth.
Check in your wiring diagram to see the earth return system.
Most electrical things on a superdream have an insulated return earth system, actually a semi insulated return system, the green wire, but the green eyelet ring connection must be good to earth.
Dont forget the heavy negative wire to earth, the main earth wire to frame and battery, but if the starter works well, then its good.
Paint is a good insulator by the way.
Do not turn the engine over with the plug leads off unless the ignition system is killed.
The ignition system is fragile, old and expensive to repair.
Plug leads should be the same length.
Give me some time to take the coil off my bad superdream, clean it and measure, as it looks very much like the pattern ones you have shown.
Sunday is a busy day and it's going to be cold.
Stay safe out there.
