The pivot bolt that the torque bar anchors to on the drum plate seems to have seized in place. Not a serious problem as such as it still does the job but it looks 40 years old and I’d like to put a new one in. I’ve soaked it for days in penetrating oil and also tried ACF50 but no joy. I’ve also tried a G clamp to push it out without success. Don’t want to get too heavy handed with it but wondered if anyone else had any ideas which might work? Many Thanks.

Try and get a small amount of vinegar down the side of the bolt, at the back face with the plate horizontal, let it work overnight. If it is still on the bike careful the vinegar does not drip on your wheel.

What did you heat it with Pete, and how much? Thanks.

I'd give it a good heat through with a blow torch, the alloy should expand faster than the steel and hopefully then a firm tap with a hammer should get it moving

I used to struggle with a butane blow torch to heat things and do small plumbing job and then saw a mate using MAP gas. So much quicker and with piezo start so no searching around for matches, which are usually damp in my case or a lighter (I have never smoked). Not as cheap as butane though. MAP gas is £15 to £18 a bottle and the torches start at £30 and go up from there. Mine cost me £45 but is well worth it.
